“Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It’s quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn’t at all. You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it, So go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that’s where you will find success.” – Thomas J. Watson

Most people often attribute their success or failure to outside circumstances. It is important to know that success starts with “you”. Once you fully understand this, you will see obstacles as merely temporary setbacks.
Successful people claim responsibility for there successes as well as there failures. As a result this provides them with more control over their lives. If you accept responsibility for all areas of your life, then you will have the power to change and improve it.
Therefore, if you do not like your current financial situation, take responsibility for it. It is your fault. If you do not have the type of money you desire, take responsibility for it. Once you take a look “inside” yourself instead of “outside” of yourself (looking for something or someone else to blame), you become more empowered and as a result motivate yourself to change.
Furthermore accepting responsibility will help you see failures as merely examples of what not to do.
In this section I will give you a mental tool for accepting your responsibility and how to use it to your advantage to generate success.
When you use this tool you will be able to develop mental clarity and also be able to provide you with solutions that will help overcome the obstacles that are in your way.
The Step by Step Procedure for Developing Mental Clarity
The principle behind this procedure is to see failures as only temporary obstacles that will eventually be conquered.
Most individuals are afraid of taking action because of the prospect of failure. Once you see failure as merely feedback of what not to do, you point yourself into the right direction for success.
Here is the procedure you take for developing mental clarity and seeing failures as challenges that you can and will overcome.
- Step 1: Analyse your current situation and develop answers to improve it
In this step write down a problem you are currently facing and ask yourself “what can I do to improve it”. - Step 2: Develop a plan for solving the problem and take action
Once develop the plan, take action. By taking action quickly you are able to get faster results. People who are successful know the importance of quick and efficient action.Remember money loves speed, the faster you take action the quicker your results. - Step 3: Analyse results
In this step you may or may not have the results you desire. If you have the results you desire this is the end of the process. If not go to step 5 Remember actions = results, results = feedback. - Step 4: repeat until you get the results you desire
This is the most important step. Here you must make a commitment to yourself to keep taking action regardless of the result. If you worry about the result, you end up becoming less motivated and as a result you start to procrastinate.
The Importance of Seeing Failures as Feedback
It is very important that you see failures as a positive guide of what not to do. If you can do this, you can become a consistent action taker.
Thomas Edison tried 1000 times before he could successfully create the world’s first light bulb. When he was asked about this he said:
‘I have not failed 1000 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 1000 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.’
