One of the biggest problems people face when trying to achieve financial wealth is that they cannot focus. We live in the information age where most people suffer from what is called ‘information overload’. There are too many distractions around us. Furthermore, in order to achieve financial wealth you need to have focus. A lack of focus leads to procrastination and procrastination leads to a lack of wealth.

In this chapter I will be to showing you how you can develop laser focus and how you can effectively accomplish more in less time. Learning this
will allow you to speed your activities up and have more time for yourself during the day. Moreover, you will be able to take control of your day. Often most people tend to watch how fast the day has gone by and are often frustrated by not being able to get anything done.

By using this simple method, you can create more focus for yourself. This will make it easy for you to accomplish more by doing less. Using this method will help you have more time for your family and friends Using the method also prevents you from feeling that you have wasted another day without accomplishing anything.

Developing Laser Focus

Focus can be strengthened like a muscle. The more you focus the stronger you get at it. The purpose of this exercise is to develop ‘focused  attention’. This is when you focus on one activity at a time. Many people have what is called ‘diverted attention’ this is when you are trying to do many things at once and as a result you nothing get done properly or at all. By having focused attention you put 100% of your attention on the most valuable activity first.

Step 1: delay gratification and focus on the right thing first

Very often we tend to put high priority on things that bring no real value to our lives. For example you could be able to perform exceptionally well
in a video game but have no real value in the real world. You may enjoy browsing web and going on YouTube and watching videos with intense focus but achieve nothing in the process.

Wealthy people are more willing to do the things they do not enjoy first and put the things they love doing second because they know that by doing so, they become more successful. Furthermore, to become financially wealthy you have to decide what the most important activity is. Be willing to delay gratification and do the things you find tedious first because they will bring you results.

So what you are required to do now is ask yourself this question:

‘What is the most important thing I have to do right now that will bring me one step closer to the results I desire?’

Step 2: select your task and take action

Once you have got the answer and know what you have to do. Begin taking action immediately. Eliminate all distractions and engage in nothing but the task, I recommend focusing on the task for a period of 90 minutes.

Step 3: Get into the zone

Once you start taking action in your activity you will eventually reach a state of flow. Many athletes and sports call this state the ‘zone’, when you are in the zone you become more focused and you are in the moment. You completely forget about everything around you and nothing exists but you and your target.

I highly recommend getting a book that goes into more detail on the subject it is called “Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience” by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

Step 4: Take regular breaks

You can only keep a high intensity of focused attention for so long before your mind eventually wanders of. So after a period of at least 90 minutes, you should take a 30 minute break. You can use this time to do what you enjoy doing. Once the break is over reengage yourself into the task.

Step 5: Develop a cycle of focused attention and taking regular breaks

Practice taking action with focused attention and take regular breaks in between. Once you get good at this focus becomes easy.

Tips for Using This Method

If you find it hard to complete a specific task or the task is really lengthy, I recommend breaking the task into chunks and completing only a part of it. It is better to complete a part of a task than to not do anything at all. One of the reasons why people procrastinate is when they see a task before  that seems long and tedious. As a result they end up delaying the completion of the task to a later date. By breaking a task into small parts you  become more motivated to complete it.

The Benefits of Laser Focus

When applying this method you will find that you are more productive and you get more done in half the time normally required to complete a task. You can get to do the things you love without feeling guilty about not doing the tasks that you are supposed to complete.

Equally important, developing laser focus can not only help you become financially wealthy but can also be applied to other areas of your life. Focus will give you immense joy and also help you effectively deal with everyday problems in life. You will find that the level of focus you have will  be directly related to your level of success, joy and fulfilment.
