• Step 3: pick another area and become good at it also
  Now once you are really good choose another are. Again for example, if you were a marketer you would now be very good at generating ‘customer leads’. You now pick another area of your marketing field, like ‘customer sales’ for example. You would learn how to get more  sales from the customer leads you can now easily generate. Furthermore, as a result of getting really good at both areas of your field, you increase your financial success.

Developing Laser Focus

Focus can be strengthened like a muscle. The more you focus the stronger you get at it. The purpose of this exercise is to develop ‘focused  attention’. This is when you focus on one activity at a time. Many people have what is called ‘diverted attention’ this is when you are trying to do many things at once and as a result you nothing get done properly or at all. By having focused attention you put 100% of your attention on the most valuable activity first.

Step 1: delay gratification and focus on the right thing first

Very often we tend to put high priority on things that bring no real value to our lives. For example you could be able to perform exceptionally well
in a video game but have no real value in the real world. You may enjoy browsing web and going on YouTube and watching videos with intense focus but achieve nothing in the process.

Wealthy people are more willing to do the things they do not enjoy first and put the things they love doing second because they know that by doing so, they become more successful. Furthermore, to become financially wealthy you have to decide what the most important activity is. Be willing to delay gratification and do the things you find tedious first because they will bring you results.

Once you have got the answer and know what you have to do. Begin taking action immediately. Eliminate all distractions and engage in nothing but the task, I recommend focusing on the task for a period of 90 minutes.

Step 3: Get into the zone

Once you start taking action in your activity you will eventually reach a state of flow. Many athletes and sports call this state the ‘zone’, when you are in the zone you become more focused and you are in the moment. You completely forget about everything around you and nothing exists but you and your target.

Step 4: Take regular breaks

You can only keep a high intensity of focused attention for so long before your mind eventually wanders of. So after a period of at least 90 minutes, you should take a 30 minute break. You can use this time to do what you enjoy doing. Once the break is over reengage yourself into the task.

Step 5: Develop a cycle of focused attention and taking regular breaks

Practice taking action with focused attention and take regular breaks in between. Once you get good at this focus becomes easy.

Tips for Using This Method

If you find it hard to complete a specific task or the task is really lengthy, I recommend breaking the task into chunks and completing only a part of it. It is better to complete a part of a task than to not do anything at all. One of the reasons why people procrastinate is when they see a task before  that seems long and tedious. As a result they end up delaying the completion of the task to a later date. By breaking a task into small parts you  become more motivated to complete it.

When applying this method you will find that you are more productive and you get more done in half the time normally required to complete a task. You can get to do the things you love without feeling guilty about not doing the tasks that you are supposed to complete.

The Backward Planner Method

Step 1: write down your goal

Write a goal of your choice on a blank piece of paper. This can be any type of goal, for the purpose of this e-book we will be concentrating on a financial goal. The goal must be a very specific amount and must have a deadline, this is important because if you are not specific the likelihood of you achieving the goal is very slim by having a specific goal and deadline you are less likely to procrastinate.

For example, if you desired to earn $50,000 you would write down on a blank piece of paper “my goal: earn $50,000 by date”. Replace date with a specific deadline you wish to accomplish your goal by.

Step 2: imagine you have already achieved you goal by the deadline and write it in the present tense

Imagine in your minds eye what it would feel like if you achieved the goal. Imagine as vividly as possible, how do you feel, what would it look like. Once you have got a clear picture of yourself achieving the goal in your imagination, write your goal down in the present tense. Writing a goal in the present tense allows you to use the creative powers of your mind to generate ideas that will help you reach your goal.

For example, for the $50,000 goal you would write “I have earned $50,000”

Step 3: imagine a step you would take just before reaching the goal

For this step you need to imagine an action step you would take right before you achieved the goal. There are many ways you could achieve your goal but try to write down an action step that feels right.

You need to use your intuition on this step. If you cannot find a good answer, chances are that deep down you know what the answer is, keep searching. Once you find the answer write it down just below your written goal.

Step 4: write more action steps

Begin writing more action steps, each step will be done backwards. Keep writing them down until you reach a point where you are now reading this e-book.

Once you have finished you will have a detailed plan of what you need to do in order to achieve your goal. Using this method will make achieving your goal much easier. Now we can move on to the daily planner method.

The Daily Planner Method

Now in this section we are going to use the daily planner method to develop daily action steps.

Step 1: develop daily action steps based on your backward planner

Look at your backward planner, each action step you wrote down now becomes a mini goal. What we going to grab a fresh piece of paper and write down 5 -10 activities that will help you accomplish a single mini goal.

Furthermore, it is very important that you focus on a maximum of 10 activities because you do not want to overwhelm yourself. It is also important that these activities are laser targeted to only accomplishing your mini goal.

Step 2: Pick the most important activity and do that first

Now out of the 5 -10 activities, you need to pick one activity you believe will bring you the most value when completed. This one activity now becomes the top priority. It is important that 100% of your attention must be focused on completing this activity.

Step 3: Do the next activity you believe to be important

After you have completed the activity you can go on to the next task and keep repeating until you have completed the list. The daily planner should be the first thing you do when you go about your day. This should especially be done before checking your emails.

Tips for Using This Method

I recommend dedicating an empty notebook to using this system as you are going to be doing a lot of writing. If you do not finish a certain activity before the day ends you can carry the activity onto the next day.

The Backward Planner and the Daily Planner work so well because it combines the power of having a long term goal and a short term goal.

If you follow this method accurately you will find that you are able to achieve your goals much faster because you provide yourself with a clear and concise action plan. The technique we will be using is called Modelling. This is a powerful mental process that comes from NLP (Neuro linguistic Programming). The principle behind this technique is based on the natural human ability to recreate excellence. As human beings we can adopt the beliefs, physiology and specific thought processes (strategies) that underlie any skill or behaviour.

Therefore you can achieve any outcome by studying how someone else goes about it. Here are the steps to successfully modelling any individual:

• Step 1: Observe your role model
  In this step you will take on the physiology of your chosen role model.You take on that person’s reality,  meaning that you imaging that you are that person. In NLP we call this second position shift.
• Step 2: You focus on “what” they do
  Now you focus on “what” the person does to be successful. When you do this you understand the reason to their actions. You get a deeper understanding to their physiology and behaviour.This process is very easy and can be done by simply  observing that person.
• Step 3: You look at “how” and “why” They do it
  In this step you look at “how” and “why” the person does it. “How” a person does what they  do is based on their “internal thinking strategy” and “why” a person does it is based on their “supporting beliefs and assumptions”. To do this  step you imaging yourself fully as the person. Literally in your mind you become that person, and then you ask yourself “what would I do  now that I am role model?” Very soon you will start getting answers on the steps you need to take.
• Step 4: Analyse and find the difference that makes the difference
  Here we find the essential steps that make your role model successful. You pinpoint the essential qualities of your role model that produce consistent success.

Now you have to ask yourself these important questions:

• “What are the behavioural patterns that produce success?”
• “How did he/she achieve the results?”
• “What did they do different from a person that is not successful?”
• “What is the difference that makes the difference?”

Once you have the answers to these questions you can then move on to step 5.

• Step 5: Design a step by step method to learning the skill or behaviour
  Once you know the procedure that produces success, you now have to design a method to learning the skill or effectively adopting the desired behaviour. Once you have a method to learning the skill or behaviour begin practicing it daily until it becomes a part of you.

Additional Benefits to using this technique

Another benefit to using the process of modelling is that you can apply it in any area of your life. If you need to improve an area of your life just pick a role model and follow the steps listed above. Once you have mastered this system you will be able to effectively model success.
