SEO Copywriters: How to Make At Least $100 Per Day, Even as a Newbie

May 31, 2009 | Read the story »

By Yuwanda Black

Most people think of freelance writers as little more than starving artists. Many freelancers themselves have bought into this ideology. But really, nothing could be further from the truth. And, this is especially true if you”re an SEO copywriter.

How Much Do Freelance Writers Make?

Did you know that according to the Dept of Labor, the average salary for fulltime freelance writers ranges from a low of $35,000 to a high of $60,000, with the median being $44,000? This is above the average annual salary across America, which is about $30,000. So, we”re not exactly starving artists.

Hence, if you”re not making at least $100 per day as an SEO writer — even if you”re just starting out — you”re doing something wrong because this is a particularly lucrative freelance writing niche.

SEO Copywriting Rates: Charge Right Or Get Out of the Game

When you see $1 per article SEO writing gigs, it’’s easy to see why so many think that freelance writers are starving artists. But as we”ve just seen, this ain”t so.

Right here, we”re going to talk about how to charge right from the get go so you make a MINIMUM of $100 per day — and much more if you”re willing to put in the hours. After all, you”re in this to make a living. And if you”re not doing that, you might as well get out of the game and do something else.

Charge a minimum of $25 for SEO articles of 350-500 words. Don”t even think about going below this. This has become a (rock-bottom) industry standard for firms that care about their brand and image, and if you charge less, you could actually be losing clients. Why/how?

Most will think you”re turning out second-rate copy, eg $3 per article, keyword stuff, third-world grammar content that they have to rewrite.

SEO Copywriters: How to Charge When You First Start Out

There are SEO copywriters who routinely charge $100-$200 per article. Remember this and stick to your pricing guns.

When to charge less: $25 is already very cheap for good, original content. But if a client is placing bulk orders (eg, 10 or 20 articles at a time) then charging less per article may land you longer-term clients. Just don”t be too quick to lower your rates though.

SEO Copywriters: Why $200-$400 Per Day Is Easy to Achieve

If you start out with $25 as your rock bottom rate, writing four SEO articles per day will get you to $100. And as most clients tend to order 3, 5 and 10 articles at a time, once you get a few clients, you”ll easily be pulling in $200-$400 per day — and hiring other writers to help you out.

SEO copywriting is a very lucrative writing niche. And, if you”re not making at least $100 per day, you”re doing something wrong.

Google AdWords to Show ALL Search Queries

May 31, 2009 | Read the story »

By Janet Driscoll-Miller

I just received an email from the Inside AdWords blog crew that put a smile on my face and should for all advertisers too - Google AdWords” Search Query Report will now show all search queries instead of rolling many queries up under the line item “other unique queries.”

Background: What Is the Search Query Report?
For those of you who are not familiar with the report in AdWords, let me first introduce you to this phenomenal tool. Located in the reports area of Google AdWords, the report provides insights into the actual search queries that users typed to find and click on your ad. While you may enter keywords into Google AdWords, if you use broad or phrase keyword matching types, you don”t still know the exact words used in or around that phrase that caused your ad to display. Additionally, if you use broad match, your ad may be showing up on synonyms or misspellings of your keywords. The Search Query Report provides the actual keyword search data.

Why Are Actual Keyword Searches Important to Me?
As I mentioned, most advertisers likely do not know all of the exact queries used to display their ads. That can be a problem, because if your broad and phrase match keywords are showing your ad for what may be irrelevant terms, you may get irrelevant clicks. That’’s just money wasted.

For instance, let’’s say you sell survey software, and you have “survey software” as a phrase match keyword. Great! But if a searcher queries Google for free survey software, your ad may show, since the query contains your phrase match keyword. Unless you have added the word -free as a negative term, your ad may show for that query - even though you sell your software, it may not be free.

The Search Query Report bears that query information out. Once you”ve run the report, you can scan it to find great new options for negative keywords, like -free, further refining your campaigns to make them more efficient.

The Old Problem: “Other Unique Queries”
Before today, the report, while very helpful, had one major obstacle: a line item marked “other unique queries.” The report rolled up many (according to them) individual, single-click queries into one line item. I guess the goal there was not to overburden the advertiser with too much data. However, in many cases, the “other unique queries” line item totaled a significant amount of clicks and, thus, ad spend. And if those keywords were not converting? You had no idea what they were to troubleshoot your keywords and negatives.

Yeah, But How Big of a Problem Is It Really?
If you”re not already running Search Query Reports, even before today’’s announcement, run one NOW! You”d be amazed at the irrelevant queries that will show your ad - even if you think you”ve caught them all with negative keywords.

Case Study: Deployable Systems
To demonstrate just how powerful the information in the report is, I”ll share the story of our client, Deployable Systems. They carry rugged, all-terrain shipping cases - the sort of thing you”d pack if you were going to the battlezone in the deserts of Iraq. Tough stuff. They carry one brand called “storm cases”.

After running a report a while back, we found the term hurricane glass vases came up in the results. WHAT? That has to be about the most opposite thing from a storm case! What happened? Because we were using broad match for the storm case term, Google automatically invoked expanded broad match (which you cannot “opt out” of). This caused AdWords to think that hurricane was synonymous with storm and vases was a misspelling of cases. Obviously, we immediately added -hurricane and -vases as negative keywords!

A New Day: Showing ALL Queries
By removing the rolled up line item and replacing with all search queries, Google has provided advertisers with significant insight into how to make their campaigns more cost-efficient. Now you can identify specific keyword combinations that affect AdWords ROI and profitability and address them appropriately as they arise. In some cases, we have clients whose “other unique queries” line may total over $6,000 in advertising spend per month. That’’s pretty significant, and we believe that one line item may hold the key to even further cost savings when mining negative keywords.

Business Promotion: Free Web Marketing Tools

May 31, 2009 | Read the story »

By Sameep Shah

Advertising and marketing a business used to be a large expense for any company that undertook it. However, thanks to the internet, there are many different ways to market your business that are cheap, and plenty more that are completely free. With the evolution of Web 2.0, which is just the social networking nature of the internet, your best assets will often be blogs and social networking sites, which are all free to sign up for, allowing you free business promotion that can greatly improve your business.

If you consider all of the different tools that you have, you”ll find that your business promotion has never been easier, more expansive, or more affordable than it is now. SEO, or search engine optimization is a great way to increase your website rankings in search engines with specific use of a few keywords or phrases that will draw attention to your website by search engine bots that find your website out there on the web. The more relevant your page is, including the link building and networking practices that you partake in, as well as the actual content, the higher your ranking will be. If you network your business, you can place links to other useful sites on your page. However, having a handful of useful links is far better than having fifteen links that are all mediocre.

When it comes to getting the best results from business promotion, keep in mind that it generally stands true that you are seeking quality over quantity in nearly every case. That means that having a little bit of greatness is far better than having a lot of different things that are merely good. Social networking is probably the number one tool that will benefit your business, because you will be able to make connections with users on a personal level, giving them a sense of trust in you and your business. By setting up a profile for your business on one of the many social networking sites, you can lure in customers by getting to know them and posting information about your business in news feeds, bulletins, and blogs.

Speaking of blogs, do you have one? If not, you definitely should. This is probably the number one business promotion tool for any business. It doesn”t matter if you sell sports memorabilia or if you sell life insurance. Having a blog out there can help you to gain that personal connection with your users, which is the hot trend right now. Everyone wants to feel like they have a connection with others out there on the internet, and businesses are not exempt from this practice. If you approach your customers through a blog on a conversational level, you”ll often experience much better success than if you throw a hard sales pitch at them.

Investment Opportunities in the Seattle Bank Foreclosures Market

May 29, 2009 | Read the story »

By Kevin Simpson

Until this year, the city of Seattle did well to side-step the sub-prime meltdown that has been wreaking havoc across the country. But the city has not been so fortunate this year, The rate of foreclosures has been steadily increasing, although it is still not as high as in some other cities such as Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Compared to other regions of the country, median home prices in Seattle have remained reasonably stable. Experts expect foreclosure activity in the Seattle area to increase marginally in 2009, but to remain under control in relation to other major cities. Furthermore, the recent rate cuts and the overall easy money policy of the fed is expected to reduce foreclosure numbers significantly.

All indications are, that the current wave of foreclosures and the housing crisis in general might not be around for too long. Prospective buyers with cash on their hands are rushing to take advantage of the situation.

Seattle bank foreclosures in particular, are finding favor amount first time home buyers and real estate investors. This is primarily due to the fact that a predominant number of Seattle bank foreclosures trade significantly below their market values. In many cases, it is not uncommon for foreclosed property to trade at discounts of up to 20%-30% to market value.

Although purchasing a foreclosed home sounds attractive, it must be emphasized that a certain amount of caution needs to be exercised while selecting the property to buy. Whether you are looking to occupy the property yourself, or looking to resell for a profit, there could be a significant cost involved in repairing the house and bringing it up to the inspection standards of the city.

The condition of the foreclosed house should play an important role in your decision, as well as in the price of the property.

Another consideration while purchasing foreclosed property is the timing of the purchased. Most foreclosed houses are entered into the market via a public auction and purchasing the house during the auction is the most popular way of acquiring foreclosed property. However, it is not commonly known that almost half of the homes that come up for auction fail to find a buyer. Theses houses will be reclaimed by the lender, who will then try to offload it using conventional methods.

The post auction period might actually be a better time to acquire the property, as the banks are likely to be particularly aggressive in selling property that has been on the market for a while.

Finally, with the steep rise in the number of foreclosures by banks recently, it is possible that many of the homes might have belonged to homeowners with little or no equity prior to the foreclosure. In such cases, the price of the home may get very close to what the banks or mortgage lender is trying to recoup and such property might not trade for as steep a discount as other properties.

In matters like there, your real estate agent should be able to give you an idea about the bank’’s guidelines and policies. To summarize, although foreclosed houses are a great deal, it is still important to crunch the numbers, ask questions, research and do everything else you can to ensure that you are getting the nest bargain that you can.

Blog Software For All Your Blogging Needs

May 29, 2009 | Read the story »

By Uchenna Ani-Okoye

Today anyone who has penning ability or is dreaming to be a writer has written a blog in the net. There are software”s that are simple and easy to use and technically inclined and challenged souls can easily acquire a blog online.

For some individuals, blogs are their projects of every day living, as they talk about their daily episodes as well as make tribute to friends and family. Furthermore, they assume a profound meaning written to compose and assemble political statements, endorse a product, supply information during research, and even offer tutorials. Any subject that are of your interests, you can be sure that someone has written online about it.

Blogs are now being written through musicians, politicians, sports figures, novelists, newscasters as well as other known figures. It is this fever that has raised controversy. The fact that anyone can compose and regarding any subject matter under the sun, complaints about certain write-ups are an issue. In a lot of these sites, names are being mentioned; do bear in mind that although you are entitled to write anything that interests you in these sites, you have to be very careful and take in a lot of responsibility. Do not make any statements which can become controversial; or else, be very prepared.

Why a Blog?

1. For personal acquaintances, relationships and hobby. A person can write a blog about his daily activities, what”s going during with his life as his way of telling his family and friends the things that goes throughout in his life. Likewise, one may also write such website just so he can express what he feels about himself, or about a certain subject matter that is of interest to him.

2. Topical. Some blogs are committed to a precise topic, like computer hardware or politics. These are frequently read like magazines.

3. For marketing. Corporations are too, into blogging; if well written and implemented, this kind of site can be a powerful instrument for business communications, forming eagerness and anticipation regarding their wares and services offered, or used as tool within the company, keeping employees well informed about company issues and news.

Why someone else”s software?

A lot of Web designer and creators will laugh at the belief and idea of utilizing the software of someone else. This is can be correct especially if each software greatly differs from the particular demands that a client may have. Yet during the other hand, when it refers to a Weblog software, there is no reason for dread in the use of a package that is pre-written, as most packages were developed by years of study; not just knocked together over a couple of days.

In addition, one may study its feature set. For a developer, it would take a lot of time and effort to write and compose from ”nothing at all” every single feature in the Weblog software packages of today. For most people, a blog is there for the main reason that chooses to publish or make known your literature and texts throughout the Web, so you hope to spend your time more throughout penning than coding.

Hosted Services

If one wishes to start broadcasting throughout the Web, yet performs not have web hosting, one can consider looking into a hosted service, which includes Blogger, TypePad, Live Journal, and more.

These services are operated or handled for an individual, so there is no need to concern one about proficient upkeep of one”s Weblog; instead, one can concentrate throughout his site”s appearance and content. In just minutes, after signing for an account, one can readily start his own such site. Many such services are tendered free, such as blogger. TypePad charges a minimal amount for monthly service fee.

Self-Hosted

When one has Web hosting on hand, or is eager to buy hosting, in which one feels that the advantage will prevail over the problems of keeping up your own blog connection and installation, then you may desire to take into account a package that is self-hosted, which includes Movable Type, Textpattern and WordPress.

Other hosting companies did construct the process of installation easier, permitting installation with just a click from a control panel that is browser-based. It is important that you check with a hosting company so you can view if this purpose is tendered. Similar to hosted services, some self hosted packages are made usable either for free or for a certain fee which is dependent throughout the type of package that you choose as well as the basis why you are using it.

Facebook & Twitter Are Not The ONLY Social Media Channels

May 29, 2009 | Read the story »

By Wendy Moyer

When I look at my Netvibes account I see so many blog posts about Facebook and Twitter. Being a Social Media Consultant it is in my best interest to stay up to date on the tools that have the most business relevance.

I found it increasingly frustrating to have the “cool kids″ on the block constantly being mentioned. So with that, I have a list of the tools that are making waves and provide real business value from my perspective:

1. twInfluence is a killer tool that performs Twitter analytics.

2. Twitalyzer- Twitalyzer very proudly measures your impact and success in social media. This is a strong claim and Twitalyzer accomplishes part of the claim. A great product.

3. Wiggio provides a Twitter-like message stream from all the group members. But it also includes a ton of valuable features such as a shared calendar, mass text and voice messaging, file-sharing (including online docs and spreadsheets) and polling.

4. File Social. Upload full files onto Twitter. Great idea!

5. Xobni(inbox spelled backwards) and its a little widget(5 minuts to set up) for Outlook. It runs down the right side of Outlook and you can minimize if you want. It pulls in all the public data from one of your email contacts online personalities (facebook, linkedin, etc.), searches all the emails you have sent and received to and from that person.

6. Skribit- Skribit cures writers block by enabling bloggers and writers to receive post suggestions from their readers to the Skribit community. Any time you can engage your peers-DO IT. But one word of caution, if you open the suggestion can of worms-you best follow through on those suggestions.

7. Tweetizen is a cleaver tool that I would recommend to anyone with a niche website. If your web presence encompasses a wide spectrum of subjects, the Tweetizen tool might be a bit cumbersome to draw in all the keywords. But if you can think of three keywords that encompass your web presence, then there is the value.

8. Reddit widget that keeps me informed of hot topics being bookmarked

9. Crowdvine is focusing on providing a cost effective solution for conference creators.

10. Techrigy- Monitor your brands reputation-real time! You can even get a free account to test drive it. I can say the product tells a great story. I have little doubt that solutions like this will become standard practice to recognize ROI with all Social Media engagements.

11. Eventvue- The company is another Social Media solution for the pathetic Conference industry. I have not been able to do a demo yet, but they are really cool, passionate and provide a solution you would expect. I am not clear on pricing, and find the website to be rather vague. But the 3 minute screen cast showed me enough to feel as though it could be a viable solution.

As you can see, Social Media Channels are not just Twitter and Facebook. There are many great tools that can help drive your business to new levels.

Blog Marketing: Creating A Personal Connection With Your Readers

May 29, 2009 | Read the story »

By Sameep Shah

The internet is changing constantly, and it just recently underwent a major change that impacted the marketing strategies of every business that has a website or operates online. Instead of the hard sells and pushy sales pitches of days past, consumers now want a personal connection with the businesses and business owners that they work with. The social networking world has created a small niche for businesses to get their name out there and network to increase their sales in a completely new way. By establishing a persona for your company and creating a personable rapport with your visitors and customers, you”ll experience much more success in the world of Web 2.0.

Web 2.0 is a term that simply means the internet works in a more social way and a less business way than it used to, and blog marketing is a key tool in this new form of marketing. Blog marketing isn”t a complicated process, and it can generate a lot of business for your company, no matter what products or services you sell. By creating a blog either on your website or on an external blogging site, you can draw readers to your services and products by building relationships and influencing their decisions rather than just selling them something.

In blog marketing, you will be able to address the business of your business on a personal level. By taking the time to write a blog daily, or even weekly, you can keep your customers and other people updated with new information, hot products, and even industry news that is relevant. A blog allows you the space to do this in a less professional manner, which is what draws people in. The blog should be conversational, not academic and stale, and it should provide insight into your business while also creating a connection between yourself and your readers.

Writing a blog is like having a conversation. You don”t have to use fancy words, and it shouldn”t be an extensively long piece. For example, you could write a blog about the new improvements in home businesses and why they are a great option for different people, if you run an employment business or a home business website. Just talk to people, like you would talk to your friends and you”ll be able to reap all the benefits of blog marketing for your business. On a final note, an internal blog, or one on your actual website can be more effective than an external blog because users won”t have to follow a link to get to your business, because they”re already there.

What Kind Of Business Should I Start On The Internet?

May 29, 2009 | Read the story »

By Kevin Allen

If you are interested in starting your own business, then one of the most important questions you want to ask yourself is what kind of business should I start on the Internet? That is because today more than ever before the Internet makes not only starting a business but also running one easier than ever.

One type of business you can start on the Internet is selling in online auctions. Selling items through online auctions is one of the hottest occupations there is. It is also relatively easy to get going, with low risk involved.

People of all ages and walks of life are earning anywhere from a few extra dollars to thousands of dollars each month, simply by selling items online. To be successful at online auction selling, you want to do some research into which sites are best and have the highest customer satisfaction ratings. You will also want to know what types of products and services are the hottest and try to provide them in order to earn good money with online auction selling.

Then, you may want to try direct sales. If you have a product or provide as service, you can find all the customers you”ll ever want on the Internet. You will want to research the market to see what niche you can fill and then market yourself accordingly. Finding customers is greatly simplified by using email and isn”t as costly as direct mail or other types of marketing and advertising usually are. Again, though, research is key to direct sales success, so take time to do your homework.

Another type of business you can start on the Internet is called affiliate marketing. This is when you market the products and services of someone else. There is a wide variety of products and services that you can sign up with to become an affiliate marketer. Affiliate marketing is usually done by providing links on your site to the merchandiser or service provider′’s site. You can also post ads that contain your affiliate marketer ID, so that when someone visits the advertised site, you get a commission on any sales that are made. Research is important here too, as some merchandisers pay a much higher commission than others, and you also want to learn as much about affiliate marketing as possible to ensure your success.

Multi-level marketing (MLM) programs are another type of business that many people start on the Internet. MLM businesses are often scams, though, so you want to be careful and make sure that the company is legitimate and has not been involved in any legal proceedings. You also want to be sure that the company has a real person to contact, a land address and phone number. If any of these are missing, it’’s usually evidence that you”re dealing with a scam.

Too, MLM has its pros and cons. There are many people who are adamant that MLMs are evil and only exist to make others rich. This is true of some, but there are others that are truly a team effort that are designed to make money for everyone. The trick is to choose a MLM that has a product that you believe in and a company that stands behind its product and people. A good rule of thumb is to always be certain that any MLM business you may be interested in to is a company with a heritage and a reputation for service to both its employees and customers. Companies like Tupperware and Avon are examples of successful, long-standing MLMs and should set the standard for any you consider.

Finally, the key to answering the question what kind of business should I start on the Internet is to ask yourself does this business suit me. For any Internet business to be successful, you need to love what you”re doing and believe in your product. Internet businesses take effort and work to get up and running, just like any other type of business. Remember that loving what you do is the most important consideration of all when choosing any career or business opportunity.

Article Marketing 101: Tips And Tricks That Spell Success

May 29, 2009 | Read the story »

By Sameep Shah

Any business is only as good as its marketing and advertising. After all, if people don”t know that a company exists, how are they supposed to find it and benefit from the services? You need to take the time to consider all of your options for marketing your business and make sure that you establish a strategy that will provide you with the maximum effectiveness, and the most minimal expense. One of the most popular techniques for marketing a business in today′’s social networking internet interface is the use of article marketing.

Article marketing allows you to write articles, or outsource the writing to one of many freelance writing companies, and then publish them in various places around the internet to generate business for your company. Websites abound that allow users to submit articles and press releases, touting their business’’s accomplishments and industry information that they can give to people and then link back to their site to seal the deal. What you write about is up to you. Choosing a topic that is relevant to your business, however, will be a little easier, because people will get the connection and feel more like they can trust you as an authority on the topic.

By using article marketing, you can open up your business to being marketed on literally hundreds of different websites that it might never have been able to be found on before. Then, people who came for information about something in your niche will be able to link to your website, which will increase your traffic generation and likely increase your sales. There isn”t one better way to do article marketing than another. You simply need to find what works for you. Just make sure that you get reputable work if you outsource your needs, and that you can write effective, informative articles if you do them yourself.

All in all, article marketing is a great tool that can increase your business. If you are capable of writing your own articles, it’’s a free service, and even if you hire someone to write the articles for you, it can still be an affordable service, and a great alternative to other, more expensive advertising methods. There is no shortage of ways that you can market your business online, but article marketing can provide a different approach, and also create a connection with people that you might not have otherwise established.
