Making Money Through Affiliate Marketing
By Bill Riske
One of the easiest ways to bring in additional money is through affiliate marketing income. Essentially, you can add links from your site to others and when one of your visitors clicks on the link and makes a purchase, you get credit for the sale and receive a commission on the amount. How much commission is agreed upon by you and the store ahead of time. There are different types of affiliate pay scales, including pay per click, pay per lead and pay per sale but the bottom line is that your visitors have to click through your website in order for the commission structure to kick in.
Generally, pay per click is a set amount for every time one of your visitors clicks through to another site and has a sustained visit. Many require a minimum number of seconds on the page to qualify. While pay per impression counts the number of times a stores link is displayed and pays a few cents per thousand. The generally accepted and preferred method of payment is through pay per sale or registration. When one of your visitors signs up for service or makes a purchase you receive a percentage of the amount spent.
If the offering is just for registering, then a set amount per sign up is paid to you. Many times there is a minimum amount that is due before payment is made, which can vary from $10 to $50. When a person becomes an affiliate for another website, they are assigned a tracking number that is used in every link from their site to their affiliate. When a person clicks on that link, a cookie is dropped on the visitors computer to track their future visits.
Each time that visitor visits the online store, the cookie lets the company know to give you credit for any activity, regardless of whether the visitor arrives through your site on a direct location. However, if the person frequently deletes cookies from their computer and accesses the website directly, then you will not receive credit for the sale. If you have an active website that receives a lot of traffic, you can add to your income by adding affiliates to your site.
It is recommended that you offer sites that are related to your site, as visitors to you will be more likely to look at other sites the links are recommending, if they are related to the subject focused on by your site. They already have an interest in what you are offering and the links are simply expanding on that interest. On most business related sites, it is advised to steer away from gambling or adult oriented sites that may be considered inappropriate by many other businesses. Although these sites usually generate a higher commission level, if your visitors are offended by this type of site, they may stop visiting your site all together.

The Tao Of Affiliate Marketing, Part 1
By Lee Rowley
Do you find the process of affiliate marketing a bit confusing? Do you wonder if it”s even possible to make a living through affiliate marketing? Maybe you”ve spent countless hours setting up marketing strategies for your affiliate products, such as blogs, articles, Squidoo pages, websites, and so on, only to find that you”re not making the kind of money you need to justify your effort.
Sure, if affiliate marketing was easy, everyone on the internet would be making a living this way. Of course, this isn”t the case. Most people who try their hands at affiliate marketing fail – sometimes because they spend themselves into a hole, and sometimes just because they get burnt out from working hard without making any money, and they give up. So how can you rise above and succeed where so many have fallen?
A clue lies in the 2nd chapter of the Tao Te Ching, the mystic explanation of “the way” written by Lao Tse over 3 centuries ago:
For “is” and “is not” come together,
Hard and easy are complimentary;
Long and short are relative,
High and low are comparative;
Pitch and sound make harmony,
Before and after are a sequence.
Now, what the heck does this “new age ballyhoo” have to do with affiliate marketing? How could this mysterious passage help you become a better affiliate marketer, so you can finally get paid fairly for your time?
It turns out, The Tao Te Ching contains quite a few insights that can help you on our path to affiliate marketing success.
See, most affiliate marketers concentrate only on selling – that is, focusing their efforts on nothing but getting visitors to buy their products. Their efforts come off as blatant sales pitches, and it turns potential customers off. No one wants to be sold to – when was the last time you visited a website, hoping for a pushy sales pitch?
The most effective way of selling through affiliate marketing is to “not sell”. That is, to educate your potential customers, and make your affiliate products seem like logical solutions for their problems, needs, and wants, without making it obvious that you want your visitors to buy your affiliate products.
How do you do this? Well, mot importantly, you should make your marketing content have value. Whether you”re promoting your affiliate products through website content, articles, email marketing, or blogging, your readers should take something of value away from your content, regardless of whether they ever buy. It could be a tip they can use to make their lives easier, a recommendation that helps them become wealthier, or an idea that sparks them to be more productive.
Here is where the “is” and the “is not” come together. Of course, your affiliate product will be the ideal resource for your readers. But while you”ll mention your product as a “recommendation”, you won”t overtly push readers to buy. If your content is engaging, informative, and useful, they”ll decide to buy on their own.
Affiliate marketing, like the Tao itself, is full of dichotomies, and can seem nearly impossible to figure out. Yet its complexity lies in its simplicity. And this simplicity is the one thing that 99% of affiliate marketers fail to understand when planning and executing their marketing strategies. Once you understand this, you can easily place yourself ahead of the vast majority of affiliate marketing entrepreneurs out there.

An Insider Reveals His Biggest Secret To Becoming A Successful Affiliate Marketer
By Reggie Dunn
“So, what do you do for a living?”
I frequently get this question asked of me and surprisingly, I find a hard time answering it in a way that is easily understood by the poser of the question. When I reply that I am an affiliate marketer, I usually get a blank stare. Of course the next question is – “What the heck is that?” I then attempt to go into a very elaborate and profound explanation of what affiliate marketing is and more often than not this proceeds to confuse the person even more.
Recently, I decided to keep things simple these days when asked this question. Now I just say – “I sell other people”s stuff online.”
However you want to define it, affiliate marketing is my full time profession and it is something that is not only very lucrative but also a great passion of mine. In my journey to get where I am today, I learned a few things along the way about what it takes to become a successful affiliate marketer but the most important secret of them all is a very simple concept known as commitment.
Affiliate marketing is a business and just like any other business, it needs to be taken seriously. It takes a major commitment to become successful, which is especially difficult for most when they start off because they are also working a full time “offline job”. I made a decision that I was going to make a career out of this awhile back and that meant I had to make some major sacrifices. To me it didn”t matter what activity I was giving up because I knew the reward down the road would eventually be freedom to do whatever I wanted to do.
Now by no means am I saying that you need to sacrifice your family time – this is still has to be the most important thing in your life (assuming you have a spouse and/or children). I am referring to things such as – instead of sitting around drinking beer with my buddies, I chose to work on my online business. When there where times when my wife was working a weekend shift or if she went shopping, I”d be glued to my monitor and keyboard instead of lounging on the couch watching the tube.
Every bit of extra time I had that didn”t interfere with my family relations, I would be learning more and more about affiliate marketing.
Commitment – That”s it in a nut shell. Of course there is a learning curve and you need to have a game plan in place , but if you stay committed and focused to this business or anything else in life for that matter, then you will eventually succeed.

Deep Indexing: Squidoo and Search Engine Indexing
By Ron Passfield
Deep linking to achieve deep indexing has become an obsession with SEO experts and novices. Just do a Google search on the term, “deep indexing” and you will see the energy that is going into this area of SEO.
To achieve deep indexing, affiliate marketers are creating multiple “inner site maps”, submitting multiple pages to search engines, adding a “popular post category” to their blogs …and so it goes on.
Well the great news for Squidoo lensmasters is that Google automatically deep indexes Squidoo lenses.
I found this out by watching the daily stats of each of my Squidoo lenses over a number of weeks. By way Of example I will discuss one of my Squidoo lenses on digital-storytelling. The focus of this lens is to help people turn digital photos into digital stories or digi-stories as they are sometimes called. It also provides links to resources to sell digital photos online.
The amazing revelation is how deeply Google indexes my lens, so that I not only receive visitors who search on my primary keyword but now I am getting visitors who search on the most unlikely “long tail keywords”.
I know for a fact the Google is indexing all my Squidoo module headings, text within modules, video titles in the YouTube modules and links in link/list modules.
Here is a sample of the 50 long tail keywords that have been used in Google, MSN and Yahoo to find my digital storytelling lens:
* 50 ways to improve your storytelling
* camera dollars income system ebook download
* companies to get paid for submitting photos
* digital stories by primary school kids
* digital storytelling imovie education
* dreamtime story about how the world was created
* earning income from digital photography
* education histroy digital story telling
* examples of online storytelling videos kids
* free software to turn my pictures into movie
* how to make an income with digital photography
* how to turn your digital photos into film
* mapping photos into digital form

Affiliate Marketing: What Is It?
By Rami Doleh
We can define affiliate marketing process as the act of searching for products/services that are developed/produced/delivered by others and then marketing them in return for a commission or percentage of the sale value. The act of searching is normally referred to as looking for affiliate opportunities.
Affiliate marketing is an online marketing strategy in which a person who is technically called an affiliate is able to make money online by simply promoting other people”s websites.
These websites are owned by people called merchants, the ones who technically operate the affiliate opportunity. The affiliate promotes these merchants” products/services/websites and whenever a sale is generated by the activity of this particular affiliate, the merchant pays the affiliate a commission, the amount of which has been decided on even before the transaction occurred.
Therefore, Affiliate marketing is a large business on the internet today that involves a partnership between a merchant and one or more affiliates, in which the affiliates advertise or promote the merchant”s product/service free of charge until a customer is gained.
Merchants use different methods to pay their affiliates and each method has its pros and cons. The main methods are:
1- Check
2- Merchant self developed debit card
3- Payment Processors.
A payment processor is by far the method that is used by most merchants. Some of the most famous ones are Paypal, 2Checkout (2CO) and a new one that is rising very quickly is Alertpay. Each one of those processors comes with its own list of disadvantages, but in general they make life easy for the online business world.
The decision to become an affiliate and search for affiliate opportunities must be a conscious one. The main reason for any person who consciously decides to seek affiliate opportunities is the fact that not all home business entrepreneurs are experienced enough to produce their own product, so most of us ”would-be-entrepreneurs” become affiliates.
Since affiliate opportunities are all over the internet, a person who is new to the online business and wants to establish one, the temptation can be high to join almost any affiliate program they see in the hopes of making extra money.
It could be useful to note here that a person who is new to the online marketplace is usually called “newbie.”
Given the amount of products and services that a newbie gets presented with, and since newbie have a burning desire to make money fast, it is easy to see how the online newbie can get lured into joining a lot of affiliate opportunities without knowing if they should join them or not.
Some of the major obstacles that face newbies when starting to establish their online home business are the following:
1- Knowing which industry they want to be in.
2- Knowing how to market online
3- Knowing how to budget their online business
4- Which affiliate opportunities to choose,
5- How to build a website including hosting and design.
For a newbie to succeed in promoting affiliate opportunities, the first thing they need to do is treat it as a real business and not a money scheme to earn quick money. A real business needs proper planning and with that you would have a good protection against empty promises that the online marketplace, especially within affiliate opportunities, is full of.

Improved Search Engine Rankings
By Kristine Wirth
Chances are, if you”re unhappy with where your website currently sits within the search engines, you”ve attempted to research different ideas as to how to improve that search engine ranking. But, like most individuals who also want to improve where their website sits in the search engines, you most likely came across information that was difficult to understand and filled with jargon to boot.
It can sometimes make someone feel as if they need a degree in rocket science just to improve where their website sits in the search engines and so they subsequently give up on the whole process.
You can take the time you need and devour all kinds of information online about how to optimize your web pages in order to get those higher rankings or you can simply take a look at a few simple items on your web pages, make some small improvements and most likely will then see higher rankings as a result.
The very first thing you need to look at is the title of your web page. Does it contain keywords or key phrases that relate to the overall topic of your website? Or does it say something like “Welcome to Company Name”? The title of your home page as well as any additional pages within your entire website need to have the keyword you are focusing on contained within your title tag.
Next, be sure that your web pages contain content. Not simply images or fancy, flashy graphics but real honest-to-goodness text and information for your site visitors. Long gone are the days when your website is nothing more than a brochure. Today you need relevant and helpful information for your visitors and it needs to be in a format that the search engines can read well; in other words, in plain text.
This does not mean that your pages have to be plain – far from it, as a matter of fact, images help to convey your message even better. What you do need to avoid however, is a web page wrought with graphics. Keep the graphics simple and to the point but be sure that text takes precedence.
Next, be sure that you have a header on each individual web page on your site and be absolutely certain that it contains the keywords you are focusing on for that particular page. Think of each web page like a page in a newspaper. Each story has a strong headline, usually larger than the rest of the text on the page and written to entice you, as the reader to read the rest of the story. Your web page is no different. If you”re savvy enough to take a look at the actual HTML code on your page, then be sure your heading is contained with “h1″ tags. If you aren”t sure, have your webmaster take a look and then have them make the changes accordingly.
Next, you must be absolutely certain that the text you do have on your web pages contain the keywords you are focused on for that page. For example, if you run a flower shop online and have a web page dedicated to red roses, red roses would be your keyword and then throughout your article you would make reference to the term red roses and variations thereof. It is very important that you use variations of your keyword throughout your page. If in doubt as to what words would be related, I highly suggest that you make use of a thesaurus or any of the many online tools that can pull these phrases for you.
Lastly, while you might be considering hiring a search engine optimization company to do all of your work for you, at costs of sometimes thousands of dollars a month, do some footwork yourself, implement some of these ideas and see if that doesn”t help your overall web site rankings.

To Really Succeed In Your Home Business, Go Where The Money Is
By Anthony Chambers
James has a problem! I know you are not his mentor, but since I am aware of his dilemma, this is as good an opportunity as any to share this information. Here is the gist of James” problem. He is a part time online marketer with a full-time job. Like most marketers, he is looking to create extra income online through his small home business. James has the usual struggles like most people, regarding available time for his passion, as well as his full-time job and family.
Here now, is the challenge that he is facing, and the decision he must make soon. One of his home business models is a MLM-type marketing type program, with a small monthly spend and residual income. He says it can be lucrative; over time. On the other hand, he sells click bank products, mostly through article marketing and web 2.0 social marketing sites.
James has been putting most of his small budget into the MLM, networking program with minimal returns so far, even though it has only been 3 weeks. On the other hand, he gets a trickle of sales into his ClickBank account. This is usually at no cost as he is not doing any type of Pay Per Click Marketing at this time.
So his question is this. “Which one do I concentrate on?” Should James put some money and more effort into his click bank marketing, since it is bringing in more sales, or should he concentrate on his affiliate marketing program? I rather suspect that there are more than a few marketers who are facing a similar situation.
Let us break down James” questions together. Perhaps we can walk away with the same conclusion as we strive to build our own home businesses. In spite of the current outlook in this particular situation, how I suspect that a reasonable solution is not that hard to find.
I believe that James” slower multi-level program which has a residual income factor may pay more money in the long run even though it appears harder to get customers now. The major problem with multi-level network marketing programs over the years has been the attrition factor. People tend to drop out of a network marketing program quickly if they are not in profit in a short time. Therefore, if James can find a way to keep people in, by helping them to be profitable in 30 to 60 days, that could do the trick for him. What do you think?
The ClickBank affiliate sales can definitely help to grow his home business income, but I see greater challenges ahead. I am thinking that there will be a threshold or ceiling on his sales unless he is prepared to put in major money into either PPC or some type of SEO program. Frankly, I am not sure I like the sound of either. But, what could that threshold be? Is it $2500, $3,000, $5,000, or $10,000 a month?
James could continue to build his ClickBank sales and still maintain some type of marketing momentum with his other MLM home business. After all, if the Affiliate Marketing Business is not costing him money right now, his cost is only in his time that he has so spend marketing the various programs. For that there may be some help. Here are a few ideas:
1. James could get someone to write articles for him to sell his programs.
2. He could hire someone to post comments on blogs, or buy a software to do that
3. James could learn PPC and use one of the smaller but cheaper PPC search engines
Another option is to concentrate on the SEO aspect of marketing his affiliate programs and not give it up for this MLM program. In other words, I believe he should continue to do both since he is earning cash from one and future residual income from the other.
Whatever are your conclusions, I hope that I have left you with something worth thinking about. Starting and growing a home business can be tricky but it can also be a great experience. If you doubt me, just wait until you start to see those “New Signup” notices coming into your inbox or your sales showing up in your ClickBank or Commission Junction accounts.

What is the Easiest Online Business to Start?
By M J Topper
If you are looking for an easy online business to start, just look to the offline world. Basically, most of you go to work at an offline “brick and mortar” business each and every day. At your job you trade time for money. In the online world the same can be done except it”s easier to eliminate the middleman, your boss.
There”s a big difference between the offline personal services and online personal services. On the internet you”re not going to be digging ditches or stocking warehouses. If you can merely type, surf the internet, and send e-mails, the information in just one a little report could mean $50 a day or more to you in profits.
Basically, what you should be looking for in any internet business is $50 a day or more earnings potential and it shouldn”t involve more than typing, sending e-mails or surfing the web. There are many other ways to make money on the internet but they can get progressively more complicated. At this point, stay clear of affiliate marketing, adwords, adsense, eBay, or filling out surveys. A personal service is a great business that has huge potential for someone looking for an easy business to get started quickly online. It”s just like off line businesses. Which is easier, mowing lawns or selling lawnmowers? A personal service is definitely the way to go.
You need a business that is in high demand. Heck, if you have more business than you can handle that might even be good. I know of one individual personally that has started this business himself and it has grown so much that he has two assistants to manage it for him.
This business idea has been a well kept secret until now but I”m letting you in on it. As a matter of fact, this concept is so simple that even an eleven year old child could do it.
In this special report, you can learn why this internet service business is in high demand, how you can easily get clients for this business, what to charge for your services and three important action steps. You will also get a great little e-mail template that will help you contact any potential customers. This report is simply the nuts and bolts of a great service business idea and every great business started out with a great idea. Could this be a great business for you?

Why You Will Fail With Affiliate Marketing
By Wayne Gillies
Your about to discover why you will fail with affiliate marketing and how you can improve your chances of success but first let me explain exactly what it is.
Affiliate Marketing is an agreement between a merchant and a website owner. The website owner, or you (the affiliate), allows the use of their site for the promotion of the merchant”s products by linking to the merchant”s website. In exchange, the merchant pays a commission to you on all sales generated by you. Every time someone clicks on the link on your website and proceeds to make a purchase, you get a commission. The merchant will pay you only when a customer clicks on the product link and makes a purchase.
Affiliate marketing is an excellent way to earn an additional or full time income while at home. There are virtually no production costs. The product is already developed and proven by the merchant, and all you have to do to find, as many prospects as you can that will bring in the profit for both the merchant and you.
Affiliate programs are usually free to join, so you do not have to worry about start-up costs. There are thousands of products and services you can choose from.
You can find affiliate programs for every product under the sun. Surely, there is a product or service out there that is relevant to your website.
So why isn”t everyone successful?
Well, way back a few years ago such sites as Commission Junction and Clickbank were the places to go in order to locate affiliate programs to promote and they are still an excellent place to go but unless you”ve been around on the internet for sometime now and know exactly what you are doing, your unlikely to make a future business out of promoting these types of programs.
Let”s just imagine for a minute you went to one of these places and after doing some research you decided to promote one of their programs, you would sign up and get your affiliate link to then start promoting.
Well the first thing that strikes me is that your not the only on promoting this link, your are probably one among many thousands, thus reducing your chances of a sale.
Secondly, what else are you gaining from promoting this link, are you gaining subscribers from the traffic you are sending to the affiliate link? NO your not, unless you may have set up a squeeze page first.
Thirdly, are they providing you with support and statistics for building your affiliate marketing business? Well, the affiliate sites themselves will usually provide you with some banners to use in your promotions and Clickbank will provide statistics of any sales you have made, but that”s about it.
What you need is a solution to all these problems that will help you succeed in affiliate marketing, but is there one out there? Well, yes there is and you will find more details below. You see, to increase your chances of not failing in affiliate marketing you need an affiliate program that not only generates and income for you but generates a monthly income on multiple top quality products, whilst providing you with all the necessary support and tools required that also build your list on complete autopilot from just marketing one affiliate link.
Conclusion: Remember to do your research and stop promoting affiliate programs that the thousand out there are promoting and look for a system that actually works which provides everything you need for building your affiliate marketing business all in one place.

3 Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories
By Ron Richardson
With modern communication technology comes the popularity of information-based marketing, which is one of the oldest and most effective techniques in getting targeted prospects to sites and converting them into buyers. This is why article writing, submissions and publications are also getting popular.
There are already many tools that people can use to make the process of distributing their articles more easily. Though this is invaluable in getting the contents more exposure, which is only half of the story.
Let us take a look first at the common mistakes that some people make before submitting their contents to article directories:
1. Confusing the reason to promote the articles with the reason to write them.
In article writing, there are three key benefits why you are promoting them branding, lead generation and promotion, which are all part of your optimization efforts.
But there is only one reason why you write an article, and that is to inform your audience. If the article is not focused on this primary and most important purpose, it will fail to achieve the three promotion benefits because no one will be interested in reading them.
You need to figure out first how to get people to read what is in your article, then make them click on your resource box. You can achieve this by producing better contents.
2. Failing to maximize the promotional opportunities of article marketing.
You may know already that your articles can help you generate additional links back to your site. But do you know that you can get more visitors and better search engine results from the same articles?
Mention keywords at strategic places. Just be sure not to overdo them. Some are even using anchor texts which is also an effective method. But it is important to know that majority of the directories are not able to support this.
Remember that it is not only about the links back to your site. Part of doing well in your article marketing is getting picked up by publishers with a large number of audiences and gaining the ability of leveraging other brands because of the quality of your work. Better search engine results also are great benefits.
But these things do not put much money in your pocket. There are other factors that can turn your article marketing efforts into an opportunity that can boost your earnings. Not just increase the number of visitors to your site.
Start out with a plan and see to it that your article will serve the function that you intended it to have.
3. Publishing content that does not help your readers.
Maybe in the process of writing articles, you are thinking that all that is you wanted is links back to your site. And any visitors it can generate are fine.
Guess what? Not all article banks and directories are going to accept your content automatically. Oftentimes, they have some guidelines and specifications on the articles that they are accepting.
You can double the number of sites you can submit to by writing articles that the directories want to share with other people. All it takes is one publisher with a hundred thousand readers to increase your potential audience overnight.
Write the articles that publishers want in their publications if you want your article marketing to work the most effective way for you. This also means you have to obey the standard guidelines, spell checks, researching on a good topic and even hiring a writer to produce a good content on your behalf.
In the end, it is all really a matter of choice on your part. You can start getting a little exposure from increased links back but on a very basic level. Or enjoy massive exposure from a little extra time making quality contents.
It will be your choice. You may not be aware of the fact that an article submitted on directories is not meant to have the same level of exposure as highly-targeted content ones geared on a narrow group of people.
Learn the difference between these two and it will surely help you know what kinds of articles to write and to submit.
